Our next Point-to-point will be held on Saturday 17th April at Ystradowen

Point-to-Point 2009

This year’s Point-to-point took place in Ystradowen on April 18th and what a fantastic day it was.  The sun shone all day and the racing was competitive.

The Member’s Race which remembered late master Sam Sherwin was won by Lady Myfanwy. Expertly ridden by Nick Williams and owned by Paul and Myfanwy Miles, this is the 3rd year running this mare has won the members, despite being up in the weight from last year.  We are very privileged to have such a quality mare qualifying with our hunt nice to have such a competitive Member’s race when only a few years ago it was the norm to have just 2 or 3 horses running. Nick Williams also managed a win in the Restricted class with his father’s horse Danny’s Last.

Welsh Champion Jockey Rhys Hughes also managed a double by riding Shuil An Burren to victory in the Intermediate and later Bob Bites Back in the John Lovell Memorial Men’s Open.

The Hunt then went on to make Welsh Point To Point history when HRH Princess Anne arrived to watch her entrant in the first of the 2 maiden races.  Trained by Zara Phillips and ridden by Tom David, Dhu Loch could only manage 2nd place as Title Deed ridden expertly by Deano Coleman came home 2 lengths in front.  Princess Anne however was still very pleased as Dhu Loch was a faller on its last outing and the Princess also collected £10 prize money for best turned out.

Other wins of the day included Lucy Pearce-Rowsell on Bosham Mill in the Ladies Open and Pollerton Boy ridden by Miss I. Tompsett in the Older horse’s maiden.
